A computer needs graphic or graphic output display on the monitor screen. Graphic output on the screen can be generated from a graphics processor on the computer. There are several types of graphics processors that are currently available, such as discrete graphics cards, integrated graphics processors (iGP), accelerated processing units (APU), and onboard graphics. There are fundamental differences in the type of graphic based on the architecture or function of its use.

THE DIFFERENCE OF APU, IGP, AND ONBOARD GRAPHIC OUTPUTS

Discrete Graphic Card

Graphic cards occupy the highest caste for performance and power usage. This is because the graphics card is an additional component that can be adjusted to the needs of the user. Gaming and professional design computer users require high-performance graphics cards to support the use of the software. Gaming graphics cards are available from the lowest class at low prices such as Nvidia GT 1030 or AMD Radeon RX 550 to high class such as Nvidia RTX 2080Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700XT. Whereas for professionals available Nvidia Quadro series and AMD Firepro series. Currently Intel is planning to release a discrete graphics card also to rival AMD and Nvidia.

iGP or Integrated Graphic Processor

iGP is a graphics processor that is on the main processor. iGP can be on a die processor or separately. iGP has a fairly low performance for gaming or professional design. However, for office purposes that are used to display Microsoft Office programs, browsers, ERP, and POS, iGP is more than enough. Currently iGP is only available for Intel processors that do not have a suffix -F.

APU or Accelerated Processing Unit

APU was developed by AMD to meet the needs of gamers with a limited budget. This low end gaming graphics class processor is a combination of the main processor and graphics processor which can use RAM optimally as VRAM which has better performance than iGP. Currently APU is available on Ryzen 3 to Ryzen 7 laptop and desktop processors. For desktop series, you can recognize APU processors with suffix G. For example, the Ryzen 5 3400G processor uses the Radeon Vega 11 APU which has a performance that is almost equal to the Nvidia GeForce GT 1030.

Onboard Graphic

Currently, onboard graphics are no longer used because they are classified as old-fashioned. Onboard graphics refer to laying a simple graphics processor on the motherboard. Onboard graphic performance is only able to handle the standard display on Windows XP and office programs in its time.
