When talking about 10 years ago or more, the name Toshiba is certainly one of the most reliable laptop brands. However, you could say that his name is now almost unheard of except as a manufacturer for USB Flash Disk and HDD drives.
And it turns out that the latest news heard is the announcement that Toshiba is now completely retiring from the computer industry, after about 30 years being active as a major player in the industry. This sad news itself was conveyed through its official press release announcing that they have now transferred their remaining part of the personal computer business to Sharp.
It turns out that Toshiba itself has sold a large portion of their business, 80.1% to be exact, to Sharp in 2018. This made Toshiba themselves have to produce their laptops under a new name, namely Dynabook. But it turns out that Sharp's re-branding attempt by Sharp has also been unsuccessful.
And finally last week, Toshiba announced that Sharp had finally exercised its right to buy the remaining shares of Dynabook held by Toshiba at the end of June, and had completed all its transfer procedures. So that in the future, the Dynabook brand will be fully owned by Sharp.
With this, the existence of the Toshiba brand in the computer business ended. Even so, the Toshiba brand itself will continue to run in their other sub units. Toshiba itself originally launched their first laptop in 1985 called the T1100. Since releasing this laptop the Toshiba brand skyrocketed to be able to lead in around the 90s to early 2000.
